Piper Davis Mission:
Piper Davis Baseball is an Inner City Baseball Organization designed to give all baseball players an opportunity to grow on and off the field.
We strive to promote Inner City Baseball now and in the future, by hosting the highest quality of amateur events, provide meaningful educational relationships that foster business and philanthropic connections to players, families, college coaches with in our communities.
The Piper Davis Youth Baseball League, founded in 1992 in Birmingham, AL by Fred “Coach” Plump, is a community based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a positive sporting foundation for at-risk Inner-city youth in the metropolitan area of Birmingham, AL. The goal of the organization is to teach the fundamentals of baseball and at the same time provide youngsters with safe environments in which to play and grow. The league is named for Lorenzo “Piper” Davis, a trailblazer in the Negro Baseball League, who once played for the Birmingham Black Barons. “Piper” gave his blessings to Coach Plump to name the league in his honor in 1992. He passed away in 1997. Since the league’s inception, the organization has grown from three local city parks, to fifteen States, the District of Columbia and the Caribbean. The game of baseball is back and has spread into communities across America providing opportunities for youngsters to experience sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and history. The Piper Davis National Inner-City Baseball Tournament was launched in 2015 to provide a national tournament for the many participants in the Piper Davis League, and for other Piper Davis associated leagues and organizations. The Tournament is in its third year and it continues to grow and deliver on league goals and objectives. From the 2016 tournament, over 21 participants received scholarship offers, from Colleges and Universities, to continue playing the game of baseball while getting an education.
