Our History

Our organization is named after Lorenzo “Piper Davis, a trailblazer in the Negro Baseball League, who once played for the Birmingham Black Barons. Piper gave his consent to Coach Fred Plump to name our league in his honor in 1992. The Piper Davis Youth Baseball League is a community-based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a positive sporting foundation for at-risk inner-city youth in the Metropolitan area of Birmingham, AL. Our goals are to:
* Teach baseball fundamentals
* Provide a safe environment to play baseball
* Allow athletes to grow on and off the field.
The Piper Davis National Inner-City Baseball Tournament was launched in 2015 to provide all inner-city athletes, regardless of state, the highest level of competition at all skill levels and age divisions. Our league has grown from being local in three Birmingham, AL city parks to hosting athletes from 15 states, the District of Columbia, and the Caribbean Islands.
